Specific Departmental Undergraduate Admission Requirements

Faculty of Arts

  • Linguistics: A/L English Literature OR BAC A4
  • Performing Arts: A/L English Literature OR BAC A4
  • English and French: At least Grade "D" in A/L English Literature and French OR BAC A4
  • History: O/L History and A/L History OR BAC A4
  • Literatures in English: A/L English Lit OR BAC A4
  • English Language: A/L English Lit OR BAC A4
  • French studies: A/L French OR BAC A4

 

Faculty of Education

  • Curriculum Studies and Teaching
    • Candidates should fulfill subject area requirements in: Biology, Chemistry, Economics, English, French, Geography, History, Mathematics and Physics.
    • Applicants who also possess the minimum GCE O/L requirements, the Teachers’ Grade 1 certificate and at least 1 A/L paper with a minimum grade of “D” in the chosen subject area may be considered.
  • Special Education
  • Educational Psychology
    • Two GCE A/L with a minimum grade of D or its equivalent. Applicants could also be holders of Teachers’ Grade 1 certificate or Diploma in Social Welfare and at least a D grade in one paper at the A/L.

Faculty of Health Sciences

All candidates must write and pass a competitive entrance examination (written and oral) for all three programmes in the faculty.

  • Nursing
    • Minimum university requirements plus O/L pass in Mathematics and Advanced Level pass in at least two science subjects. Candidates who meet the O/L requirements and possess the State Registered Nurse's  Certificate (SRN) (otherwise known as Infirmier Diplomé d'Etat ) and two A/Ls or at least 1 A/L with a minimum grade of "D" in the sciences may be considered, or the BAC (C or D series).
  • Medical Laboratory Sciences
    • Minimum university requirements plus O/L pass in Mathematics and Advanced Level pass in at least two science subjects (at least "D" grade) one of which must be Biology or BSc degree in Pure or Social Sciences or the BAC (C or D series).
  • Medicine
    • Minimum university requirements plus O/L pass in Mathematics and Advanced Level pass in at least two science subjects (Biology and Chemistry) or the BAC (C or D series).

 

Faculty of Science

All science applicants are expected to have obtained 5 GCE O/L including English and Mathematics and 2 GCE A/L passes or its equivalent.

  • Biochemistry: 2 GCE A/L passes in either Biology, Zoology, Human Biology and Chemistry OR BAC D
  • Botany: 2 GCE A/L passes in either Biology, Botany and Chemistry OR BAC D
  • Chemistry: O/L Physics and at least a “D” in A/L Chemistry OR BAC C or D
  • Environmental Science: Any two A/Ls from Biology, Chemistry, Geology/Geography, Physics and Mathematics OR BAC C or D
  • Geology: Any 2 A/Ls from Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics and Mathematics OR BAC C or D.
  • Mathematics: A/L Mathematics with at least a “C” grade OR BAC C
  • Microbiology: Same requirements as for Biochemistry OR BAC D
  • Physics: A/L Physics and Pure Mathematics. A pass in Further Maths will be an advantage OR BAC C
  • Zoology: 2 GCE A/L passes in either Biology, Zoology, Chemistry OR BAC D
  • Applied Physics: A/L Physics and Pure Mathematics. A pass in Further Maths will be an advantage OR BAC C

Faculty of Social and Management Sciences

  • Accountancy, Banking & Finance, Economics, Management
    • O/L Mathematics and A/L Economics OR BAC B or BAC G2
      or G3.
    • Holders of the RSA and LCCI Stage III may also apply. Such applicants should have a pass in at least five approved subjects in Stage II of the RSA or LCCI, including English and at least two subjects in Stage III of the RSA or LCCI, including Economics. Subjects such as Typewriting, Secretarial Duties, Office Routine, etc. shall not be considered
  • Geography: At least two GCE A/L Passes including A/L Geography or Geology. A pass at O/L Mathematics will be an advantage.
  • Journalism & Mass Communication: At least two GCE A/L Passes. No specific A/L requirement, but a pass in O/L Mathematics will be an advantage.
  • Law : At least two GCE A/L Passes No specific requirements
  • Sociology & Anthropology: At least two GCE A/L Passes. No specific GCE A/Level requirements. Candidates with a technical background should show proof of some knowledge in social issues. O/Level Mathematics may be an advantage.
  • Political Science: At least two GCE A/L Passes No specific GCE A/L requirements.
  • Women and Gender Studies (Double major Degree):No specific requirements but a pass in O/L Maths and A/L Economics will be an advantage. Candidates must also meet minimum requirements for the second major chosen.

Faculty of Engineering and College of Technology

  • Candidates should be holders of the following following qualifications or their equivalents:
    • At least five (5) GCE O/Ls, including English Language, Mathematics, and Physics
    • At least two (2) GCE A/Ls, including Physics and Mathematics, OR GCE A/L Technical in Electrical Technology, OR BAC (C, F2, or F3 series)

Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine

  • At least five (5) GCE O/Ls, including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, and Chemistry, or any equivalent qualification. For Agricultural Economics, a pass in Economics at the GCE O/L or equivalent qualification will be required.
  • At least two (2) GCE A/L science subjects, including Biology and Chemistry, OR BAC (D series)
