TWENTY-FIRST MEETING OF COUNCIL
UNIVERSITY OF BUEA
The twenty-first meeting of Council of the University of Buea held on Thursday, 29th January 2009, in the Board Room of the Faculty of Science, under the chairmanship of Professor Maurice Tchuente, Pro-Chancellor of the University and Chairman of Council.
Council opened with an opening remark by the Chairman, who welcomed all members to the session and expressed gratitude to Government for its continuous support especially in providing a special subvention that enabled the University to construct a new 900-seater classroom block and a block of 50 staff offices in 2008.
Council then endorsed the reports of the Financial Controller and the Accounting Officer on the financial accounts of the University for 2008, and expressed gratitude to Government for the disbursement of its 2008 subventions (recurrent and investment) in its entirety. Council also thanked other stakeholders for their remarkable solidarity and contribution towards achieving the objectives and mission of the University of Buea.
Council expressed appreciation of the Vice-Chancellor’s report for 2008, and approved the promotion and advancement of some members of teaching staff who were promoted at the last CCIU meeting;
The high point on the agenda was the examination of the 2009 draft budget of the University, which was adopted at the sum of 5,944,264,000 FCFA (five billion nine hundred and forty four million, two hundred and sixty four thousand francs CFA) being 4,821,813,500 for recurrent expenditure, 967,000,000 for investment and 155,450,500 for externally funded research grants.
Council congratulated Professor Maurice Tchuente for his appointment as Pro-Chancellor of the University of Buea and Chairman of Council. While wishing the management of the University a productive year 2009, Council congratulated the Vice-Chancellor Professor Vincent Titanji and his collaborators on the good management of the University and encouraged the entire University community, management officers, teaching staff, academic staff and students, to continue in its drive in creating and maintaining a cordial and peaceful atmosphere on campus.
